"I'm going to make scalloped potatoes for dinner."

She wouldn't trust him to carve the pork roast, which was vaguely insulting, but did so herself as she steamed asparagus.
Brody decided not to complain, as the meat smelled incredible and he noted
there was a serving of scalloped potatoes in his immediate future.

"Call me late to dinner. Just leave my name alone."

He nodded in agreement. "Do I call you Kathleen?"
"I certainly hope not." She grinned. "No one else does."
It took him a moment to understand. "Kasey, then."

As far as the “you can call me anything you want,” portion of that joke, I can definitely relate. My name — which seems pretty straightforward to me — is apparently a booger to remember, pronounce or get right half the time. You might never call me late to dinner, but one of every 20 people are going to call me “John.”

"It stands for Magdalen Juliette."
A cough of laughter escaped him. It was the last thing he'd expected. "You're kidding."
"It stands for Magdalen Juliette," she repeated between clenched teeth.
"And the only people who know that are my family, Bailey and Grace.
In other words, only people I love and trust, which now includes you."
"Magdalen Juliette," he repeated, rolling it around on his tongue.
"Quite a handle, sugar."
"It's M.J. Legally M.J., because that's what I wanted.
And if you ever call me any form of Magdalen Juliette other than M.J.,
I will personally and with great pleasure skin you alive."

Which sport are you made for?

"I went for a run."
"A run?" he repeated, distracted from trying to place the vague accent.
"Yes, I'm into running." She lifted her face and studied the perfect sky. "Actually, I was into running before it was something to get into. Even though I resent being part of a trend, I can't stop. Do you swim every morning?"
"Whenever I can."
"Maybe I'll try that instead. Swimming uses more muscles, and you don't sweat."
"I never thought about it quite that way."

✍️ Robert Frost

She shot the young girl a grin. "What are you studying?"
"American poets."
"Have a favorite?"
"I like Robert Frost."
"I always liked Frost." Kasey smiled as lines flitted through her mind. "His poems always remind me of my grandfather."
"Your grandfather?"
"He's a doctor in a remote section of West Virginia. Blue mountains, forest, streams. Last time I went home, he was still making house calls." He'll be making them when he's a hundred, she thought, and missed him suddenly, acutely. It had been too long since she'd
been home. "He's an incredible man—big and strapping with white hair and a big, booming voice. Gentle hands."

Romance After Becoming Parents

With his own sandwich, David slid across from him. “It is good you came to me, young student, for I am the master.”
“I know. I thought about just walking over one night, maybe with a bottle of wine, knock on her terrace door. The direct approach.”
“It’s a classic for a reason.”
“But she’s nervous about Amelia, about having any sort of, you know, encounter, in the house. At least that’s my take.”
“Is encounter code for hot sex?”
“Damn you, you’re too clever for my pitiful ruses. Anyway, I could have her and Lily over for dinner, and after the baby was asleep—a little wine, a little music.” He shrugged and felt he was riding around the same circle again.
“There’s also a reason why fine hotels have room service and Do Not Disturb signs.”
“Room service?”
“Work with me, Harp. You take her out to dinner—fancy dinner. Let’s try the Peabody. They have lovely rooms, lovely service, fine food—in-room dining.”
Chewing thoughtfully, Harper played it out in his head. “I take her out to dinner—in a hotel room? Don’t you think that’s a little . . . brilliant,” he decided after a moment.
“Yes, I do. Wine, candles, music, the works, all in the elegant privacy of a hotel suite. You’ll be bringing her breakfast in bed the next morning.”

A major challenge for parents, especially new parents, is finding the time to be together in ways that foster romance in their relationship.

He laughed and drew her to face him again. "About that fantasy…"

"I'll meet you at midnight," she whispered. "Right here."

"You bring the wine, I'll bring the wood."

"It's a deal."
