"Anyway, We're Married Now"

“Yeah, Emma mentioned it. You’re here stag?”

“Yeah.” Del smiled slowly. “You never know, do you? Check out the blonde in the blue dress. Those are some nice pins she’s got.”

“Yeah. I always thought Laurel had great legs.”

Del choked on his beer. “That’s not … Oh,” he managed when she turned, laughed, and he got a better look. “Not used to seeing her in a dress, I guess.”

Earlier Jack and I were standing around, and I was scoping the crowd, the way you do.”

“The way you do.”

“Okay. I spot this blue dress with a great pair of legs and …” He made a vague gesture that gave her a clear picture of the and. “I thought, nice, very nice indeed, and made some mention of same to Jack. He pointed out that the legs and the rest I happened to be scoping were yours. It gave me a hell of a jolt, I admit.” He gauged her reaction, judged surprise led the way. “In the interest of full disclosure, I also admit it wasn’t the first time. So whether or not it was the right thing to say, it was accurate.”

🎇 Happy Fourth of July

Every year, the Quinns held a huge come-one, come-all picnic. Family, friends, neighbors gathered at the house, as they had since Ray and Stella's day, to eat, drink, gossip, swim in the cool water of the inlet and watch the fireworks.

“Those some aren’t our tribe. And thinking of tribes, why don’t we gather ours for the
Fourth?”
“Fourth of what—oh. July. God, it’s nearly here.”
“We could play some ball, eat some hot dogs, watch the fireworks in the park.”

Cheap Thrills

“Breath, makeup, hair,” Emma announced as she flipped out a pocket mirror.
Mini Altoids were passed, lipstick freshened.
Four pairs of shoes were slipped onto four pairs of feet.
And Parker finally hung up the phone.

Come on, come on, turn the radio on
It's Friday night and it won't be long
Gotta do my hair, put my makeup on

At two A.M. Mac crawled back into the limo, and sprawled.
“I came to have fun with my best pals in the land, and said mission was accomplished. God, do we have any water in here?”
Laurel passed her a bottle, then groaned.
“My feet. My feet are screaming like voices of the damned.”
“I had the best time.” Emma slid onto the limo’s side bench and pillowed her head on her hands. “We should do this once a month.” Parker yawned, but tapped her purse.
“I have two new contacts for vendors, and a potential client.”
And so, Mac thought as the limo streamed north, we each define ourselves.
She toed off her now very painful shoes, shut her eyes, and slept the rest of the way home.

Make the Mood Magical At Your Wedding

Miranda was right, she thought as she keyed in all the details. She was going to have the most amazing wedding.

An abundance of flowers, a contemporary look with romantic touches.

Candles and the sheen and shimmer of ribbons and gauze. Pinks and whites with pops of bold blues and greens for contrast and interest. Sleek silver and clear glass for accents. Long lines, and the whimsy of fairy lights.

When it comes to designing your wedding, it’s just as important to discuss how your event designer or florist will light the ceremony and reception as it is to talk about what flowers will adorn each dinner table.

Celebrity planner Colin Cowie tells Yahoo Style that lighting can totally transform the space.

“This year, brides are paying extra attention to this décor element, and the results are illuminating,” he says.
So what are your options?

“Fairy lights. Acres and miles and rivers of tiny white fairy lights, all through the gardens, in the willows, on the arbors, the pergola.”

Laurel blinked, yawned. “Huh?”

“Your wedding. Romantic, elegant, abundance without fuss.”

Happy Ever After

Feb 1, 2016

Photograph

When it happened, it happened as much inside Mac as out.
Her three friends were grouped under the lush white curve of the arbor, a triangle of pretty young girls. Some instinct had Mac shifting her position, just slightly, tilting the camera just a bit. She didn't know it as composition, only that it looked nicer through the lens.
And the blue butterfly fluttered across her range of vision to land on the head of a butter yellow dandelion in Emma‟s bouquet. The surprise and pleasure struck the three faces in that triangle under the white roses almost as one.
Mac pressed the shutter.
She knew, knew, the photograph wouldn't be blurry and dark or fuzzy and washed out. Her thumb wouldn't be blocking the lens. She knew exactly what the picture would look like, knew her grandmother had been wrong after all.
Maybe happy ever after was bull, but she knew she wanted to take more pictures of moments that were happy. Because then they were ever after.

We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
Hearts are never broken
Times forever frozen still

“It doesn't matter. That's the point. It doesn't matter that my mother is my mother, or that things don't always work exactly the way you thought they should. Moments matter. I know that better than anyone, but I never let it apply to me. Not to me. People matter, how they feel, how they connect, who they are alone and together. All that matters, no matter how quickly the moment passes. Maybe because it passes. What matters is you're the blue butterfly.”
“I'm . . . what?”
“Come on, Professor. Dr. Maguire. You know all about metaphors and analogies and symbolism. You flew into my life, just landed in it unexpectedly. Maybe miraculously. And the picture formed. It just took me a while to see it.”
“I'm not . . . Oh, the picture. Wedding Day, the one you took when you were a girl.”
“Epiphanies. I had one then, and I had one tonight. I want this.”

Bridezillas

"Friend of Bride or Groom?"
"Groom. The bride's a monster."
"God, she really is." Emma leaned back and laughed. "She brought me a picture of her best friend's bouquet. Not because she wanted me to duplicate it, which she certainly did not. Hers is a completely different style, but she'd counted the roses, and told me she wanted at least one more in hers—and warned me she'd be counting them."
"She will, too. And I can pretty much guarantee no matter how good a job you do, she'll find fault."

Bridezilla's Crazy Email to Bridesmaids Goes Viral.

We Respond to Her Demands (and Cc: Internet)

It's being called the most insane email a bride has ever sent to her bridesmaids. But if you've been in enough wedding parties, you probably won't be too shocked by the epic bridezilla missive going viral this week.

The email, sent anonymously to Gawker, starts off by addressing the 10 "lovely" bridesmaids tasked with being unpaid interns for the worlds worst bridal boss. It goes on to anticipate their failures as friends and humans.

Del leaned on the counter. "I hear you kicked some ass with the Folk wedding last weekend."
"Do you know them?" Emma asked.
"Her parents are clients. I haven't had the pleasure—though from what Jack says that may be
overstating—of meeting the new Mrs. Harrigan."
"You will when they file for divorce," Laurel said.
"Always the optimist."
"She's a nightmare. She sent Parker a critique list this morning. E-mailed from Paris. From her
honeymoon."
"You're kidding!" Stunned, Emma gaped at Laurel. "It was perfect. Everything was perfect."
"The champagne could've been colder, the wait service faster, the sky bluer, and the grass greener."
"Well, she's just a bitch. After I gave her ten more roses. Not one, but ten." Emma shook
her head. "It doesn't matter. Everyone who was there, and who was an actual human, knows it was
perfect. She can't spoil it."
"That's my girl." Del toasted her
