"Reels, meet Nora."

His lips twitched. “You got some weird-ass ideas.

“Yeah? Wait for this one. I want a pot-filler faucet.

You’re going to have two damn sinks, and you want one of them gadgets that swings out on an arm from the wall over the stove to fill pans with water?

Yes, I do. Maybe I want to fill really big pots with water for pasta, or for washing my damn feet. Or for boiling the heads of cranky plumbers who argue with me. Maybe Ive developed a faucet fetish. But I want it.”

A Modern Masterpiece by the Sea in Japan

He had placed no paintings on the walls. The ocean was art enough.

The Dining Room Is Back

"Set the table in the dining room. Use the good dishes."

"How come we're eating in there? It's not Thanksgiving."

"And the linen napkins," she added. "The ones with roses on them. Six place settings. Wash your hands first."

"Jeez. She's just a girl. You'd think the Queen of England or somebody was coming over."

Why so many people are embracing a forgotten space

The formal dining room, long considered a symbol of wealth and privilege, has been the subject of much debate over the past 30 years. Some declared it dead, a relic of a bygone era when families sat down together each night for a home-cooked meal. Others clung to it as a place to welcome friends and family for holiday meals. All the while, American families turned toward eating in more informal spaces in the kitchen or — gasp — in front of the TV or on the go.

Outdoor Christmas Decorating

Natasha stood outside the front door as the snow fell. There were lights strung
along the roof and around the posts. She wondered how
they would look when they were lighted. There was a full-size
Santa on the door, his load of presents making him bend from the waist.
She remembered the witch that had stood there on Halloween.

"Look at that," Ethan murmured, sliding a hand over Seth's hair as the boy bristled. "It's a picture of the house."
"Looks good," Phillip angled it to get a better view of the clever pencil sketch of the two-story house on the bay.
"Really good."
"It's no big deal."
"I decide what's a big deal around here," Cam kept a hand on Seth's shoulder as he studied the sketch. Yes, it was clever. The boy had talent. But more, it meant home. To all of them.
"And this qualifies. This is a very big deal. Who's it for?"

Awesome Backyard Home Offices

Now she pulled open the door of the utility shed. It was a big square building, as wide as the
average barn, with hardwood floors and paneled walls. Uncle Jolley hadn't believed in the primitive.
Hitting the switch, she flooded the building with light.
As per her instructions, the crates and boxes she'd shipped had been stacked along one wall. The shelves where Uncle Jolley had kept his gardening tools during his brief, torrid gardening stage had been packed away. The plumbing was good, with a full-size stainless-steel sink and a small but more than adequate bath with shower enclosed in the rear. She counted five workbenches. The light and ventilation were excellent.
It wouldn't take her long, Pandora figured, to turn the shed into an organized, productive
workroom.
It took three hours.

The garage-size room was full of tables, machines, shelves, tools, stacks of wood There appeared to be a number of projects in progress, but Jonah couldn't tell what they were, or what they were intended to be.
"Impressive," he decided, diplomatically. "What do you do here?"
"I make a great deal of noise. Other than that, I haven't figured it out. I helped Keenan build a
bird-house about ten years ago. Came out pretty good. Cilia started buying me tools. Boy toys, she calls them."
He ran his hand over the guard of a skill saw. "Then I needed a place to keep them. Before I knew it, I had a fully equipped workshop. I think it was all a ploy to get me out of her hair."

Home Decor Goals

I had new shelves - BILLY @ IKEA what else?! 😏 - put in my home office.

So much fun to be able to rearrange books and trinkets.

Of course Nora Roberts' book are on top shelf and in one I indulged by singling out one of my favorite series paired with a favorite quote by Nora💓. So happy with the final result.

I intend to make that top shelf an exhibit spot - changing the series or standalone and pairing with other favorite quotes 💓

Enjoy!!!

It’s National Book Month — Give Your Reading Spot Some Love

He wanted nothing rigid or forbidding about
the room. Between the two tall windows he'd set a huge, festive,
ornamental lemon tree in a brass pot. A gift from his parents. They
always knew what suited him best, he thought, smiling
as he trailed a fingertip over a glossy leaf.
He'd already arranged the seating area. A long, take-a-nap sofa
in cheerful blue, a pair of wide chairs, low tables that invited the
occupants to put up their feet and relax. Naomi had helped him
choose the lamps, he recalled—the charming die-cut tin shades, the
romantic globes—on one of their shopping forays.
The stately pewter candlesticks that graced the mantel were
heirlooms, housewarming gifts from his grandparents.
The bronze-colored
mums that stood in a Wedgwood vase between them
had come out of his own garden.
There was a great deal of himself in the room, Ian realized.
And pieces of those he loved.

Art Can Improve Your Room Design

The pretty plants and
bland pastel paintings on matte-white walls didn't hide the fact
that law was the order here. The carpet was a muted gray, the
deeper-toned chairs in the waiting area were likely just the wrong
side of comfortable.
"We wouldn't want people to be at their ease now, would we?" she
thought bitterly.

for the first time. "Yeah, I can see I'd have been wrong."
"Greens and mauves," Regan announced. "Deep greens. And those chairs in the outer office have got to go.
I've got a couple of library chairs in mind. Deep-cushioned, high-backed. Leather.
And I figure hardwood with area rugs, instead of that gray sea of

Yes, of course. Savannah could already see it. Regan MacKade was obviously a woman who knew what she wanted.
"Look, I'm not a humble person, but can you actually see my paintings jibing
with your taste... or Jared's?"
"Yes. And I think, all things considered, that you and I will work together very well." Regan held out a hand, waited.
"Well, are we going to give Jared a break and get him out of that tomb?"

Celebrating the Autumn Equinox

“It’s a fine day, isn’t it? Bright and cool. The harvest is nearly done, and we’ll have our
celebration soon,” he continued as he walked with the hawk on his arm. “The equinox, as
you know, when night conquers day as Gronw Pebr conquered Lleu Llaw Gyffes. We’ll
celebrate the birth of Mabon, son of Mordon the guardian of the earth. Sure there’ll be
honey cakes for certain. I’ll see you have a bit.”

Design a Bedroom that Grows

She stopped in the doorway of her room first. Her childhood room.
It had gone through numerous incarnations from the little-girl fussiness
that was her first memory of it—and her mother's vision—through
the eye-popping colors she'd insisted on when she'd begun to have her own ideas
and into the messy cave where she'd kept her collection of fossils and old bottles,
animal bones and anything else she'd managed to dig up.

When it comes to kids, nothing is permanent.
They change their favorite foods, colors, and styles as easily as the wind blows.
Why should the design of their rooms be an exception?
Be prepared for these requests for change to come and open to them when they come. However, by following these tips to design a room that grows along with your child, you can save yourself a lot of time, money, and frustration in the process.
But, best of all, you can respect your child’s unique personality while doing so, which is never a bad thing.

Find Your Spirit Colors

"This is the color?" Jordan rubbed his chin as he studied her list. "Island? What
kind of color is Island?"
"Greeny blue. Sort of." She handed over the paint chip. "See? What's wrong with
it?"
"I didn't say anything was wrong with it. It's just not something that makes me
think bookstore."
"It's not just a bookstore, it's ... Damn it." She held the sample up, she held it
down. She crossed her eyes and still couldn't envision it on the walls of her space.
"Malory picked it out. I was going to go with this off-white, and she and Zoe
jumped all over me."
"White always works."
She hissed out a breath. "See, they said I was thinking like a man. Men won't pick
color. They're scared of color."
"We are not."
"What color's your living room in New York?"
He shot her a bland look. "That's entirely beside the point."

Rustic Rooms That'll Make You Wish You Owned A Mountain Chalet

He called this a cabin? Cilia was grateful the music masked her surprised gasp.
Her idea of a cabin was a squat little log structure in the middle of nowhere
lacking all possible conveniences. The kind of place men went when they wanted to
grow beards, drink beer and complain about women.
It was built of wood-a soft, aged wood
that glowed warm in the dappled moonlight.

If you're thinking "rustic" and "farmhouse" are the same thing - hold up. They're not. The latter has lots of white, shutters, and shiplap, while the former is big on woods, minimalism, and a more raw, undone feel. It's what we imagine our future mountain chalet will look like, but while we continue to dream about that (extremely) far off day, these rooms will inspire you to incorporate rustic decor into your current house. All the cozy feels!

The main room at the cabin's center was huge, an open gabled structure with rough-hewn beams and a charming granite fireplace. Thick, cushy furniture was arranged around it. Its freestanding chimney rose up through the high, lofted ceiling. Above, a balcony swept the width of the room, keeping with the theme of open space and wood. In contrast, the walls were a simple white, accented with glossy built-in shelves and many-paned doors and windows.
This was nothing like the arches and curves of his house in Denver. The cabin was all straight lines and simplicity. The wide planked floors were bare. A set of gleaming steps marched straight to the next level.
Beside the fireplace was an open woodbox stacked with split logs. A touch of whimsy was added by grinning brass dragons that served as andirons.
