Stonehenge ๐Ÿ—ฟ

There the path ended, and there stood the stones, a perfect circle, graduated in size from one on each side no higher than Riley’s waist to the king stone, taller than two men.

They stood, quiet gray, under the strong afternoon sun, swimming in a shallow sea of mist.

“Not as massive as Stonehenge, but more symmetrical,” Riley observed. “I bet when I measure them, each set is precisely the same in height and width, and an exact ratio.”

The archaeologist led the way, moved straight up, laid a hand on a stone. Pulled it back. “Did you hear that?”

“It . . . grumbled,” Sawyer said.

“No, it sang!”

Die with a Smile...and...Face the Fire

The first time I listened to this song it took me back to the final big scene of "Face the Fire". What a perfect soundtrack it would make...

“I wasn’t sure of that. I wanted to be, but I wasn’t sure, until you stepped out of the circle in front of me. And what you felt for me . . . telling me you love me, paled with the feeling it burst out of you in that one moment. I knew you’d come after me. I knew then, without question, that we had to finish it together.”

things to know about the longest day of the year

Why do we have a summer solstice, anyway? Friday, June 21 will be the longest day of 2019 for anyone living north of the equator. If pagan rituals are your thing, this is probably a big moment for you. If not, the solstice is still pretty neat.

9 ways to use up leftover pumpkin

Her trio of pumpkins waited on a bed of
newspapers on her kitchen table. She'd
already used a portion
of the largest for Lulu's dessert.
It only waited to be carved into the appropriate design.
She would make pumpkin bread, she thought,
as she began on the second.
And pie, cookies.

There’s more to pumpkins than spooky Halloween decorations.
Instead of wasting these wonderful winter vegetables,
re-use them in these sweet or savoury recipes.

"Want me to dump the guts for you?"
"Dump them? How would I make a pie?"
"With a can." His brow furrowed as he watched her slide chunks of pumpkin into a large bowl. "You
mean you actually use that stuff?"
"Of course. Where do you think they get the stuff in the cans?"
"I never thought about it. Pumpkin factory."

Creative Pumpkin Ideas for Halloween

“Ah, we’re decorating for Halloween tomorrow, if you want to

“Are you kidding? I have major skills in this area.”
“Great, you can carve the pumpkin. The boys are
old enough now to realize how lousy I
am at it. Come by later. I’ll buy you a cup of coffee.”

Birthday ๐Ÿธ

"Happy birthday."
The sweetness of the gesture made up for being caught off guard,
as she rarely was.
Mia's smile bloomed —absolute delight. "Thank you. Cake?"
She lifted a brow as she picked up a flute.
 "Mimosas, and presents."

Video shows a huge bolt of lightning strike a sailboat

She called the storm. The gales of wind, the
bolts of lightning, the rage of the sea that
was both prison and protection.

The owner wasn't on the boat and no one was hurt.

a bolt of light shot out of the sky. A black bolt of light,

“Nobody was in it, but they could have been. He could have been, and I
wouldn’t have been able to stop it. No control, just anger.”

Lovers ~ Heroes and Saints

She lifted his head, looked into his eyes. And gave him her magic.
“Share with me,” she said, drawing him down into the kiss. “Share all.”
Her light was gilded red against his deepening blue.
The brilliant thrill flooded her, swamped her as their powers entwined and merged.
And merged, streamed inside them both. She let herself fly on it, rose to him as he filled her.
There was a rush like the wind, a stream of sound like a
hundred harpstrings plucked at once.
The air swelled. All she was, and all he was, laid open. The air shimmered,
light against light building to a radiant glow. Even as he moved in her, long,
slow thrusts that savored the gift, he took her hands.
Linked fingers curled tight and sparks swirled from them to dance in the air.
As they climbed, the light brightened, building,
building toward a flash that burst like lightning.
And on that burst, he met her mouth with his, and flew with her.

Saint Christopher Medal

Althea shifted, crossed her legs with a rustle of silk. The silver dangling over his shirt
was a Saint Christopher medal, she noted. The patron saint of travelers.
She wondered if Mr. Nightshade felt the need for spiritual protection.

The Catholic Church honors medals as a form of religious protection. These medals often represent one of our many beloved saints, one of which is of Saint Christopher. The Saint Christopher Medal is one of the most popular around the world because of his significance in the Catholic faith.

The Saint Christopher medal is believed to protect the wearer on his or her travels. For this reason, many people wear Saint Christopher pendants around their necks, on their wrists, and some even hang the medals in their cars!

Spring Flowers in Winter?

Bring spring indoors early for winter color and fragrance

After all the Christmas decorations are packed away the house looks drab. So instead of letting the winter blues kick in, we make our rooms warm and inviting with flowers. We force the usual amaryllis, paperwhites, and tulip bulbs, but we also force branches into bloom to add even more color and fragrance to our suddenly quiet home. It is very satisfying to sit in our breakfast room early in the morning and observe the daily progress of forsythia buds as they swell and burst open. We cannot think of a more economical way to raise our spirits.

Figuring how to make it work

There are challenges — and rewards — to going solo.

She waited until she thought that Lulu had had time enough to get home from the bookstore but not enough to settle in too comfortably.
After she’d waded through the lawn art, adjusted her eyes to the
virulent colors that Lulu habitually selected to paint her house,
and knocked on the back door, Ripley was pleased to see her timing was good.
Lulu had changed out of her work clothes into a sweatshirt that read,
“Coffee, Chocolate, Men . . . Some things are just better rich.”
She had an unopened bottle of wine in her hand and was wearing ratty red slippers
and the faintly irritated look of a woman who’d been interrupted.

"Paint each other's toenails."
"Excuse me?"
"Give me a break. I don't know what you
people do in your mysterious caves when men aren't around."
"We have pillow fights in our underwear."
He brightened because she wanted him to.
"Really? I was afraid that was a myth. So, be a friend, okay?"

In the newsletter Dolly Mail, London-based writer Violet Hudson made the case for lady-only gatherings. “There are covens all over this city,” she says. “The libations we make are spilled red wine. The spells we cast are conversation. And the potions we brew are pasta or roast chicken. The Wiccan religion that we all practice is simple: girls-only hang outs.”

Guide to a Dog-Friendly Backyard

Mia arrived with a bouquet of freshly clipped daffodils,
and helped herself relax by sitting on the floor playing
tug-the-rope with Mulder.
“I think of getting a dog now and then.”
She laughed as Mulder lost his toothy grip on the rope
and went tumbling ears over tail. “Then I think about my gardens.”
She snatched the puppy up, holding him high.
“You’d just love digging up all my flowers, wouldn’t you?”

Halloween Displays to Inspire

Mia treated a young space explorer. The bookstore was one of the most popular spots on Halloween.

She was having the time of her life.

If you happen to be in Europe, Africa, Australia or anywhere else in the Eastern Hemisphere on July 27, you just might find yourself standing under this century's longest lunar eclipse.

Those outside the viewing area for July's eclipse won't have to wait long for their own chance to peer up at a full blood moon. The next total eclipse, visible over northwest Africa, Europe and the Americas, will take place on Jan. 21, 2019.

There’s a reason why sending flowers for Valentine’s Day never gets old: People love them. As a Rutgers University study points out, subjects receiving flowers responded with more-heartfelt smiles than those gifted candles or fruit baskets—and they even remained happier for the next three days compared to the control group, too.

If you really want to shower this person with love, figuring out the perfect gift for any hater starts with a simple question: Why do they hate Valentine's Day? Now, you have something personal to work with. There are so many reasons to dislike the festival of love: outrageous consumerism, corny quotes, high pressure, a reminder that you're forever alone...
Get to the root of why this person hates Valentine's Day and you'll be able to pick out a gift that they can actually use, with some real sentiment to back it up.
