Why Do We Like Watching Scary Films?

"Why?" He shrugged his shoulders. It always made him uncomfortable when
people asked him to analyze. "I don't know. Maybe because when people go into
a scary movie, they stop thinking about the lousy day they had at the office after
the opening scream."

Why do we love to watch scary horror films? Some psychologists claim people go to horror films because they want to be frightened or they wouldn't do it twice.

Horror Movies to Get You Into the Halloween Spirit

"Good horror fiction's supposed to make you wake up at 3:00 A.M.
and wonder if you've locked your doors."

Let me start off by saying that fall and horror movies are two of my favorite things. Put them together and it's my absolute favorite time of year. As a child, horror movies would terrify me, but now I actually thoroughly enjoy them. Not much scares me anymore and I have no problem watching a horror movie or two, even before bed, especially during this glorious time of year. After you have seen as many of them as I have, there's not much left to fear. If you love to get scared and want to have a blast doing it, check out my personal horror movie recommendations below.

Real Names Of Chris Evan's Twins 'Ping And Pong' Revealed

"Have you picked out names?"
"I like Curly and Moe," Nash said, panting right along with Morgana until she
managed to jab him weakly with an elbow. "Okay, okay, Ozzie and Harriet, but
only if we have one of each."
"Don't make me laugh now, you idiot."

Best Fall Foliage

The first thing Serena noticed during the drive from the airport were the trees. It had been
some time since she’d seen oak and maple and pine touched with fall. It was barely
September, but the feel of autumn was in the air, with all its strength and colour.

Leaf peeping season is finally here!
And there are plenty of postcard-worthy destinations to see the most colorful and scenic vistas across the country, from New England to the Oregon coast.
Here are 7 of the best from sea to shining sea.

___________

Autumn had taken over New England,
with its exceptional style. Trees roared with color, and as they passed their peak, the air took on a snap that hinted slyly of winter.

Autumn πŸ‚

The damp air, fat as a soaked sponge, the flickers of light filtering through the trees, the
swirl of the oncoming autumn made it all a fine day, in Connor’s opinion, to tromp around
the wood following the hawks.

The fight over Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie

“I thought we could get another dog, a puppy, as company for Bert. You could name him, since I named Bert.”
“Two dogs, no waiting.” He considered. “It’d have to be Ernie.”
“Why?”
He nipped one of the hot peppers off the tray. “Bert and Ernie. Muppets? Sesame Street?”
“Oh. That’s a children’s program. Bert and Ernie are friends?”
“And possibly more, but since it’s a kids’ program, we’ll stick with friends.”

Are Bert and Ernie gay? It depends whom you ask.

Sesame Street has always had one consistent official answer (no, they’re not), but that hasn’t stopped the two famous felt roommates from becoming gay icons and occupying a unique role in the queer rights movement. Controversy over their perceived homosexuality has raged intermittently for decades, spearheaded by both allies and adversaries — and a new flare-up shows that it’s not going away anytime soon.

...rain kept him from mowing the lawn...

“How then? Robbing banks, dealing drugs, selling your body?”
“All viable options, but no. I won the lottery.”
“Get out. Really?” Delighted, fascinated, she lifted her glass in toast before stretching out
a hand for a pretzel.
“Yeah, just a fluke. Or, you know, destiny, again depending. I picked up a ticket now and
then. Actually, hardly ever. Then one day I went in for a six-pack of Corona, sprang for a
ticket.”

High Noon

She shook her head, gaped at him. “You won a hundred and thirty eight million dollars on
a lottery ticket?”
“Yeah, go figure. Best six-pack I ever bought.”

memories as infants might not be lost

The light from the lamp slanted over her face, caught something, something in her eyes that jiggled at the corners of his memory.

"Did you have a picture on the wall? Flowers, white flowers in a blue vase?"

Her fingers tightened on the brush. "Yes, in my bedroom in New York. One of my watercolors. Not a very good one."

"And you had colored bottles on a table. Lots of them, different sizes and stuff."

"Perfume bottles." Her throat was closing again, so she was forced to clear it. "I used to collect them."
"You let me sleep in your bed with you." His eyes narrowed as he concentrated on the vague blips of memory. Soft smells, soft voice, colors and shapes. "You told me some story, about a frog."

The Frog Prince. Into her mind flashed the image of how a little boy had curled against her, the bedside lamp holding back the dark for both of them, his bright-blue eyes intense on her face as she'd calmed his fears with a tale of magic and happily ever after.

"You had—when you came to visit, you had bad dreams. You were just a little boy."

Memory traces from our earliest years might stay in our brains.

Most people don't remember anything before the age of 3, but a new study out of New York University suggests that memories formed in our early years might still be latent in our brains. With the right triggers, those memories might get unlocked, reports New Scientist.

winter's coming

The amusement parks opened for business on weekends in the spring and fall. In the three summer months they worked seven days a week. The summer kept the town alive; it drew tourists, and tourists meant business. For one-fourth of the year, the town swelled from a population of thirteen or fourteen thousand to three hundred thousand. The bulk of those three hundred thousand people had come to the small coastal town to have fun.

Men tend to hate it when women cry — for reasons that they often have difficulty articulating. Now, new research suggests why — men may be biologically primed to react to a woman’s tears.

Truth Behind the “Perfect” Shot

“We’re going to do even better. Let’s try a few in that same pose.”
Warming up now, Mac noted as she chatted Rosa up along with Emma. She tossed in quick directions. Tilt your head to the right, shift your shoulders. Halfway through she handed Rosa one of Emma’s long-stems, tried shots with the flower as a prop.

On Grandparents Day, Sep 9

....................................................

It was the rain that made him think of the tale. The lash of it battered the windows,
stormed the rooftops and blew its bitter breath under the doors.
The damp ached in his bones even as he settled by the fire. Age sat heavily on him in the
long, wet nights of autumn—and would sit heavier still, he knew, in the dark winter to
come.
The children were gathered, huddled on the floor, squeezed by twos and threes into
chairs. Their faces were turned to his, expectant, for he’d promised them a story to chase
boredom from a stormy day.
He hadn’t intended to give them this one, not yet, for some were so young. And the tale
was far from tender. But the rain whispered to him, hissing the words he’d yet to speak.
Even a storyteller, perhaps especially a storyteller, had to listen.

When the sun dipped low in the sky, dripping the last of its fire, the children huddled
together to hear the next part of the tale. For the old man, their eager faces and wide eyes
brought the light into the room. The story he’d begun on a rainy afternoon would continue
now, as twilight settled over the land.
The fire crackled in the grate, the only sound as he sipped his wine, as he searched his mind for the right words.
