What happens to your body when you cry?

“I didn’t mean to make you cry.”
“I cry easily. You should see me after a greeting-card commercial on TV.”

Whether triggered by sad movies or happy reunions,
stubbed toes or allergies,
crying seems to serve many purposes.

He brushed the hair back from her face. "You've got a right to break
down. I don't know anyone else who'd have made it this far without a blowout.
But don't cry anymore, M.J. It rips me up."
"I hate to cry." She sniffled, knuckled tears away.
"I'm glad to hear it."

Guaranteeing a second date while on a first date

“This is all ammunition, Cart. All ammo. You want to be able to order a nice bottle of wine.
Oh, and after dinner, if she says how she doesn’t want dessert, you suggest
she pick one and you’ll split it. Women love that. Sharing dessert’s sexy.”

Couples on Channel 4's First Dates were analysed, with some interesting findings

She smiled. “Look how cute you are in your smarty-pants. Now why don’t you order dessert,
so I can pretend to be self-righteous and not—then eat half of yours?”
They lingered. She’d forgotten what it was like to have a meal with a man she could have
long, twisty conversation with. One who listened, who paid attention—whether or not
he was thinking about the possible bonus round at the end of the evening.
He made her think, she realized. And entertained her.

School That Turns Firefighters Into Fire Detectives

“Regardless, we’ll pursue every avenue of the investigation. We can speculate, too, Mr. Curry,” DiCicco added. “But we have to work with facts, with data, with evidence. Two people are dead, and that’s priority. But those wildfires matter. I work for the Forest Service, too. Believe me, it all matters.”

When a wildfire stops burning, an important job begins: Figuring out how it started, and who should be held responsible.

And while he performed these habitual acts, he scanned the scene. A man in his position needed to keep an open mind about fire. He would take an overview of the scene, the weather, note the wind direction, talk to the fire fighters. There would be all manner of routine and scientific tests to run.
But first, he would trust his eyes, and his nose.
The warehouse was most probably a loss, but it was no longer his job to save it. His job was to find the whys and the hows.
He exhaled smoke and studied the crowd.
He knew the night watchman had called in the alarm. The man would have to be interviewed. Ry looked over the faces, one by one.

Moon Garden Marvel

"Blooms picked in moonlight carry the charms and secrets of the night."

What Is a Moon Garden? (And How You Can Start One)

A moon garden should consist of flowers and plants designed to reflect moonlight but also remain visible and fragrant during an obscured or new moon. White flowers should occupy most of your plot, along with plants with silver and gray foliage. Other pale hues to consider include pink, yellow and lavender.

Down in her garden, walking, almost gliding through the silvery light, with the
gray cat slipping in and out of the shadows. Her hair loose, sprinkling gold dust
down her back and over the sheer shoulders of a pale blue robe. She carried a
basket, and he thought he could hear her singing as she cut flowers and slipped
them into it.

Video shows a huge bolt of lightning strike a sailboat

She called the storm. The gales of wind, the
bolts of lightning, the rage of the sea that
was both prison and protection.

A passerby recorded a bolt of lightning striking a boat docked in South Boston in a video obtained by CNN affiliate WFXT.

The owner wasn't on the boat and no one was hurt.

“I imagined it, and almost before I realized,
a bolt of light shot out of the sky. A black bolt of light,
barbed like an arrow. I sank Zack’s boat,” she said with a weak smile.
“Nobody was in it, but they could have been. He could have been, and I
wouldn’t have been able to stop it. No control, just anger.”

Design a Bedroom that Grows

She stopped in the doorway of her room first. Her childhood room.
It had gone through numerous incarnations from the little-girl fussiness
that was her first memory of it—and her mother's vision—through
the eye-popping colors she'd insisted on when she'd begun to have her own ideas
and into the messy cave where she'd kept her collection of fossils and old bottles,
animal bones and anything else she'd managed to dig up.

When it comes to kids, nothing is permanent.
They change their favorite foods, colors, and styles as easily as the wind blows.
Why should the design of their rooms be an exception?
Be prepared for these requests for change to come and open to them when they come. However, by following these tips to design a room that grows along with your child, you can save yourself a lot of time, money, and frustration in the process.
But, best of all, you can respect your child’s unique personality while doing so, which is never a bad thing.

Lovers ~ Heroes and Saints

She lifted his head, looked into his eyes. And gave him her magic.
“Share with me,” she said, drawing him down into the kiss. “Share all.”
Her light was gilded red against his deepening blue.
The brilliant thrill flooded her, swamped her as their powers entwined and merged.
And merged, streamed inside them both. She let herself fly on it, rose to him as he filled her.
There was a rush like the wind, a stream of sound like a
hundred harpstrings plucked at once.
The air swelled. All she was, and all he was, laid open. The air shimmered,
light against light building to a radiant glow. Even as he moved in her, long,
slow thrusts that savored the gift, he took her hands.
Linked fingers curled tight and sparks swirled from them to dance in the air.
As they climbed, the light brightened, building,
building toward a flash that burst like lightning.
And on that burst, he met her mouth with his, and flew with her.

📖 Nora at the Beach 🏖️ - now and then

In time for vacations I received two emails.

One remembering what I took to the beach 10 years ago - I still remember being so happy for having all the time in the world to read it - and the one I will take this year.

It's good - no, it's awesome - to count on Nora for memorable vacations as her books imprint it-selves in those lazy and happy days of Summer.

Spend your summer with #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts in the close-knit vacation community of Lakeview, North Carolina. There, two lost souls look to escape the past and discover a new life together. Read UNDER CURRENTS, an extraordinary novel about the power of family to harm — and to heal.

Nora could've written this script... oh, wait... 😉

"You want to go back."
Phoebe didn't hear the fear, only her own regrets.
"It's a long way back, Addy. Too far. When I married Abdu
 I left it all behind.
More than I understood then."

After Break-Up With Billionaire Ruler, Dubai Princess Flees With Kids

Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, the sixth wife of Dubai's billionaire ruler,
has reportedly fled the United Arab Emirates with their two children
following the break-up of their marriage.

"I want you to be happy, darling. Happy and safe. That's all that matters."
"I like being here with you." Despite all the cookies and tea and lemonade at the couturier's
she was hungry, but she didn't want to say so. "There is so much to see.
When you told me about places like this, I thought you were making up stories. It's better than a story."
Phoebe opened her eyes to stare out the window. They were driving along the river in the most romantic city in the world.
Recklessly, she lowered the glass and drew in a deep breath.
"There, Addy, do you smell it?"
Laughing, Adrianne leaned closer, like a puppy, to let the breeze race against her face.
"The water?"
"The freedom," Phoebe murmured.
"I want you to remember this moment."

🎇 Happy Fourth of July

Every year, the Quinns held a huge come-one, come-all picnic. Family, friends, neighbors gathered at the house, as they had since Ray and Stella's day, to eat, drink, gossip, swim in the cool water of the inlet and watch the fireworks.
